California, specifically Southern California, is one of the greatest places to run. The sunny days and warm weather make it easy to get out and run, even when you don’t feel like it. If you’re new to the Mission Beach area or just visiting, this is the place to be. Safety is not an issue, however always be vigilant.
Around the left side of Mission Bay
The left side of Mission Bay is the bay side of the peninsula that is Mission Beach. If you're looking for less wind, a fraction of the crowds on the ocean side, and still decent views, this is a great place to run. Along with that, if you want to do a longer run, this path goes a lot further than the ocean side.
The red outline shown here is where I found I could run, with some of the bay being blocked off by private developments (Bahia Resort). If needed, some of the bulbs seen jutting out can also be used to add some time onto your run. A photo of the bay side
Ocean side
The ocean side is amazing, as you get a wide boardwalk for most of the run and amazing views. Negatives for this route include the large amount of crowds and shorter distance, along with being an out-and-back. Otherwise, you get all the benefits of being right next to the ocean with a hard running surface under you. There are also a lot of small cafes and shops for you to enjoy once you finish your run.
Pacific Beach
If you want to extend your run or get away from the crowds and the beach, you can head into Pacific Beach, located at the top of the peninsula. This is a great spot to run with lots of amazing landscaping as you run, but it is very hilly.
Overall
Running here is amazing, and you should try to get out and experience as much of it as you can. Enjoy the warm, sunny days! If you have any more route suggestions or cool places along these routes, feel free to share them in the comments below. Have fun running!
